This was our first stay at Del Mar Motel On The Beach. Upon checking into our room, we recgonized that the bathroom sink drained very slow. We notified staff & they promptly responded; we were moved to another room. Housekeeping kept our room very clean daily. We liked being right on the beach. We saw 5 dolphins playing & several pelicans diving for fish. We watched the surfers & took walks daily on the 2 miles of beach access. Plenty of places within walking distance to shop & eat; low to high range in cost. The Harvest Ranch Market in Stratford Square has a deli which makes fresh sandwiches, breads, salads, whole rotisserie chicken & other foods daily that are prefect to take for a picnic on the beach or Powerhouse Park.
This is not a remark about not liking anything, just a comment. Some may not like the sounds of trains, but it didn't bother us. Several trains run up & down the coast many times through out the day and night time. We know that Del Mar is a place Lucy and Desi Arnez came to live and play & we have to think that this is where the idea for one of their skits came from; the show were they stayed in a motel with Fred & Ethel were the train kept coming all the time. It made us smile.

This hotel is located on my favorite beach in San Diego. The hotel is located next to the lifeguard station and the Poseidon and Jakes. It is a short walk up the hill to Starbucks and a grocery story. The deck offers multiple grills to cook out, steps from the sandy beach of Del Mar. The beach is sandy and great for skim boarding, surfing, boogie boarding or just a swim.

Location, Location, Location. The place was exactly as shown on the web site. The rooms were actually much nicer than I anticipated. Simple but newly updated and very clean. Lots of shared space but we always had enough room and enough privacy if we wanted it. It was a wonderful experience for us. We felt like we got our time at the beach. I loved watching all the families, lots of kids on the beach. Right next to the Lifeguard headquarters which had a huge torch lighting evening surf event while we were there. We will be going back.

I like the location! It's nice to be able to walk to the beach from your room and not have to find a place to park and then pack all your stuff.
I think that the hotel needs to be remodeled. It looks like a regular hotel and the price is pretty high. It's also a little annoying having the trains go by so often and they sound like they go through your room.
